Quick start
- Connect your phone and computer to the same Wi-Fi network.
- Open the CamNexo desktop app on your computer. Allow it through the firewall on private networks if Windows asks.
- Open the CamNexo app on your phone and allow camera access. Your computer appears under “Computers nearby”. Tap Connect.
- In your video app, choose CamNexo as the camera.
Choose the resolution and framing from the desktop app's top bar. The phone follows your choice.
My computer does not appear on the phone
- Check both devices are on the same network, and the same Wi-Fi band or router, not a separate guest network.
- Make sure the desktop app is open and says it is waiting for a phone.
- Some routers block devices from seeing each other (“client isolation” or “AP isolation”). Turn it off, or use a phone hotspot with the computer joined to it.
- As a workaround, tap Enter address manually in the phone app and type the computer's address shown in the desktop app's details panel.
- Allow CamNexo through the Windows firewall on private networks. The receiver uses TCP port 7878.
“CamNexo” is not in my video app's camera list
- Close and reopen the video app after the desktop app has started.
- The desktop app shows whether the camera is ready. If it asks for setup, follow its instructions (administrator permission is needed once).
- Check Windows Settings, Privacy and security, Camera, and make sure apps are allowed to use the camera.
- If Windows' camera service stopped, starting the desktop app again restarts it.
The picture is black or frozen
- Make sure the phone app says Streaming and the desktop app shows a live picture.
- Lower the resolution from the desktop app, or switch to Auto, especially at 4K.
- Move closer to the router or use a 5 GHz network.
- Stop and start streaming on the phone.
Streaming stops when I use other apps
CamNexo should keep streaming in the background and show a notification. If it stops, open your phone's settings for CamNexo, allow notifications, and set battery use to “Unrestricted” (the wording varies by phone maker).
The picture is sideways or cropped
In the desktop app, Auto fits the whole picture and the frame follows how you hold the phone. Fixed Landscape and Fixed Portrait keep one frame shape and crop the picture to fill it. Use the flip button if your phone is mounted upside down.
